Plain Fresh are working with Transition Marlborough and the Town Council to start a local produce and local enterprise market in the town.
The new market will start on July 1st, 2012 and shall be taking place in the High Street on a Sunday. After a lovely launch at St John’s School, Marlborough Science Fair back in March, Marlborough Communities Market has received extensive feedback from the public and are currently in the process of obtaining funding for market stalls to meet the July deadline.
The aims and objectives of Marlborough Communities Market shall be very much centred around Transition Principles of positive visioning, inclusion and openness, building resilience for communities against the effects of peak oil in addition to the belief that rather than decision-making and control being centralised, people and communities should be empowered through knowledge and systems thinking to self-organise and make decisions at the appropriate level.
We already have a number of traders signed up to the new market and even have a Routemaster bus that shall be buying local produce and operating a kitchen on the lower level with a small cafe above. There shall be a great deal of energy and extra events going on at all markets from live music, to talks, demonstrations, tastings, rural skills workshops and craftspeople and artists creating on site.Tags: Community engagement, Consultation, Marlborough, Social Enterprise, Transition Towns
